Each Deco X20 unit has 2 Gigabit Ethernet ports

Each Deco X20 unit has 2 Gigabit Ethernet Ports, supports Ethernet backhaul. Any of them can work as a Wi-Fi Router.

Awe-Inspiring Wi-Fi 6 Speeds

Deco units work to provide you faster speeds up to 1.8 Gbps for buffer-free 8K/4K streaming and gaming even with all your smart home, mobile, and other electronic devices connected to your network.[2]

Coverage in All the Right Places

Immerse your whole home in powerful WiFi no matter its size or shape. Three units work together to provide coverage up to 5,800 sq. ft., ensuring you have uninterrupted WiFi from the bedroom to the backyard.[2]

Want more coverage? Simply add another Deco.

Easier and Hassel-Free WiFi Everywhere. Don’t get disconnected.

Unlike traditional routers and range extenders, Deco keeps you connected as you roam seamlessly from room to room without ever dropping your WiFi signal or connecting to a new network, and all you need is one WiFi name and password to connect.[3]

What is WiFi 6?

WiFi 6 is the next generation standard in WiFi technology. WiFi 6 also known as “AX WiFi" or "802.11ax WiFi” builds and improves on the current 802.11ac WiFi standard. WiFi 6 can provide faster speeds and handle more devices.

Does Deco X20 support Ethernet bachhaul? How many Ethernet ports does it have?

Yes, each Deco X20 unit has 2 Gigabit Etherent ports, you can connect them with Ethertnet cables to get better backhaul speeds. Each Deco X20 can work as a WiFi router, not like some Mesh that only provides 1 router and 2 extenders.

What is TP-Link HomeCare? Is it Free?

TP-Link’s HomeCare is a built-in service. The features of HomeCare will vary from product to product.

For Deco X20, this service is lifetime free which is made up of three separate features: Parental controls, Antivirus, and QOS.*

Will the Deco X20 work with my Internet Service Provider? (Cable and DSL?)

The Deco X20 works with all ISP’s by connecting to your owned or ISP-required cable or DSL modem. The Deco X20 itself is not a modem.

Is WiFi 6 compatible with my currenty WiFi devices?

WiFi 6 is backward compatible with previous generations of WiFi. You can connect your old WiFi devices to it. However, in order to take full advantage of WiFi 6, it requires clients to also support WiFi 6, like iPhone 11, Galaxy S10/Note 10.

My Son (who has an IT Network Management Masters Degree) recommended the TP-Link Wi-Fi 6 Mesh System Deco X20 System for my home because I was having lots of problems with weak signals for my recently installed outdoor Ring Doorbell Pro, Security Cameras and Floodlights. Also for the newly installed indoor Echo Show, Echo Dot, TP-Link Kasa Smart Plugs and Switches to control the lights. To compound the problem everyone was streaming TV shows and weekend visitors connecting their smart devices. The TP-Link Wi-Fi 6 Mesh System Deco X20 solved my Wi-Fi problems and covers my entire 3600 square foot house, 1/4 acre lot, and all the smart and streaming devices. And I still have room for growth because I can connect up to 150 devices to this system.

As I descended into COVID-19 "lockdown" and working from home, video conferencing with Microsoft TEAMS became the new daily norm. My home wifi system was not ready for this change. I was paying for 100mps wifi and after several service calls, a technician demonstrated that the signal from my router was poor in many areas of my home. He also suggested that I consider a Wifi mesh system. After much research and consideration of features, I chose the TP-Link Deco X20 because of highly rated reviews, cost, and the fact that it is built on the new WiFi 6 standard. I know that most devices are not WiFi 6 compatible but with the rate of change in electronics, it made sense to purchase the latest and greatest. The Tp-Link X20 fixed the problem and more. It comes with built in internet security and I''m seeing maximum speed at all nodes. Microsoft TEAMS meetings are flawless and we are currently connected with no less than 9 devices full time. I highly recommend this product.

We live in a rambling two-story home with outside entertainment areas. We always had plenty of dead zones and found repeaters to be not much help. This system does the trick. Blazing fast speeds all over the house and outside too.

I found the app helpful in the install until I hit a snag...and then it was useless. The website was far more helpful. The main unit set up quickly after an initial hiccup. Warning: the cable included with the unit to go from modem to unit is a bit short. The secondary units were very easy to install. So easy that I plugged and unplugged them in several spots to determine the prime locations. I ran a speed test on my phone to judge.

A nice feature is that the app alerts you anytime someone joins your network. The design is clean and simple. I''m pleased with my selection.

About a week ago I purchased a Deco M4, 3 unit system. The installation was honestly the easiest I''ve ever done. Immediately, all the dead spots and issues I had with my AT&T U-Verse were gone. For the first time, I had wifi in my entire home that actually worked. I was so happy I even tweeted about TP-Link.

For some reason, I decided to upgrade to this X20 system. I have 30 days to return the M4 system I purchased, why not upgrade since I was so happy. It''s now been 2 hours since my change over. The wifi speeds are slower, EVEN on my iPhone 11 Pro which rocks WiFi 6. A few of my devices keep disconnecting. The WiFi also seems to be slower with the Homecare Antivirus turned on.

All Deco X20 devices have been updated to the latest firmware but that''s not going to be enough to stick with them. I think I''m going to spend an hour and go back to the M4 system which was working flawlessly. I was just hoping to get a bit faster speed by upgrading to the X20 units. Lesson - If it''s not broke, don''t fix it.

These little devices have solved all of my problems. (no not really) Speed is way up without changing internet package, huge improvement in range and connectivity.
Arguments with 9 yo about daily internet time/access? GONE. Set the time limits for ratings/days/devices/times available-takes me out of the interaction...Yes, i know i''m the parent...I can limit...(and have-successfully and unsuccessfully)...but something about this external limit really helped him to understand. "Mom can you turn the timer off?" "no"...still tries it for a minute...gives up and goes off to do something else WITHOUT THE FIGHT. No more "almost done" if he wants to save his progress...its his decision and within his control to use his time wisely and save before it gets shut off. Wish I had bought this the day it came out. I''d have paid 3x the price of this just to have my sanity back. It''s worth it.
We parents can actually work because I can set our devices to priority access for work and video calls...no lagging or dropping. Very happy.

These are okay. I got them to replace my Google wifi. I got these because they accept a wired connection and many other mesh systems don''t. I ran ethernet through my house so that I can''t connect each mesh unit directly instead of relying on passing the signal wirelessly.

They''ve turned out decent.

Positives:
- they look good
- they''re solid and feel like good quality
- the app and it''s interference are great. Much cleaner and good to look at than the Google wifi mesh.
- each unit accepts a wired connection as a backhaul
- they can integrate and work with other tp link mesh systems if you need to expand

The bad:
- they get updates all the time in the middle of the day and they get installed on the spot which means the system restarts randomly and you have to wait for it to finish. It''s anywhere between 5-15 min. This happens at least 3-5 times a week at unexpected times so my wifi gets cut off. Very very very frustrating because I''m in the middle of work and suddenly I realize I dont have wifi, or I''m in the middle of streaming a movie and it cuts off. Sooo annoying. The good thing is that they install and restart on their own but still annoying. Usually updates are a good thing but on this system I get nervous not knowing when it will restart with an update. I also can''t believe how many updates it gets. Usually hardware gets updates only every so often but these things get updates at least 3-5 per week and sometimes twice a day. If they didn''t shut down my whole network for up to 10 min at random times, I may not mind. Since I can''t control the updates I never know when I''ll lose my whole wifi connection
- the wifi 6 is terrible to non existing. I have 300 mbps internet. On wifi when connected to this system I only get about 50 mbps on average. When wired I do get the full speed but not on wifi. So that''s also very disappointing.

These are the only negatives but id say they are pretty big considering that wifi 6 is supposed to be the point of getting these and no one wants a wifi system that restarts and makes you lose connection frequently and at random. You also can''t choose to postpone the updates or choose a time to install them. They install when they want to :(

UPDATE- the random restarts have stopped! Not sure why but it seems that there aren''t as many updates any more. Maybe there used to be a lot because they were a new model and the engineers were frequently working on improving them and now they have got them down more solid? Not sure but wifi is much better now - no more bad surprises.

Got a new laptop that actually has wifi 6 and the wifi does seem to be faster on that device as well.

UPDATE again 8/10/21:
Wifi and the routers have continued to be great. No more random updates or internet going down. Updates do happen but not as frequently so that''s great. Increased star rating to 4 stars.

I live in a 3700 sq. ft. ranch, and the connectivity and speeds are great throughout the house. My internet provider is Comcast, and they had told me my old modem wasn''t providing the speeds of newer modems. After these changes I am completely satisfied. --- Update --- After a couple weeks of using this i gave up and returned it. There are just too many faults with this product. What put me over the edge: - Compatibility - wifi 5 devices will sometimes lose connection for no useful reason. Older devices may not be able to connect at all. - Support - The hardware revision i received was v1.2 - you should note that v2 is already out. TP Link doesn''t always release firmware updates for older versions of the hardware. So be aware of this when you purchase. - You cannot disable remote management - the devices are cloud-based, meaning that your settings are run up to the tplink cloud for management. I think of my network like a digital front door - and i don''t feel comfortable giving the keys to tplink. - Seamless roaming - is a pipe dream. It doesn''t work as well as advertised. If you roam around the house, you won''t always be switched to the best signal. Instead it might push your device to 2.4ghz with a slow connection. The roaming is rather dumb - even with a wifi 6 compatible device like a surface pro 7. Expect some growing pains with this device and hope that TPLink continues to support and update the firmware - if you can get v2 hardware, you''ll stand a better chance of continued support while they work out the kinks. --- Original --- If you''re looking for detailed configuration and customization of the X20 system... you should look somewhere else. There''s not a lot of customization like in their previous generation of wifi router. For example: - SSIDs for 2.4 and 5.0ghz networks must be the same - you cannot change it - At the time of writing, WPA-TKIP cannot be disabled (fyi - bad security - your iphone will display an error). There is BETA firmware that''s available to resolve this. - Configuration website is barebones - all configuration must be done via the app - PPOE connections are supported, but require a reboot to connect properly - No option to isolate guest network clients from each other There are some highlights: - the performance is decent. With 2 units we were able to get decent speeds on the main and second floor of a 2800sqft home. This includes out into the backyard and front yard where speeds were around 10-15mbps (around 50 ft from the nearest access point). - Setup was somewhat easy using the Android app. - as stated above, if you''re not using your Bell modem and require a vlan and PPOE, then you should expect the connection to fail until you''ve restarted the unit. Bottom line - good value - relatively easy setup - worth getting if you have a larger home and tired of having dead/slow spots in your house.

A couple of things I noticed. The first unit connected by wire to the existing router, needs to continue to be the one connected by wire. When I switched to another Deco having the wired connection, it did not seem to connect. It may have taken longer than I was willing to wait! This appears to be a characteristic of "Router Mode" - read on. I wanted to replace the wifi functions of my Rogers router, so I turned off the wifi features of the router. The Deco uses "Router mode" by default (which i did not really notice or appreciate when initially installing) and I ended up with two different sub-nets that did not really talk to each other - one wired and the Deco wireless. I changed Deco to Access Point mode and everything sorted itself out.

I then let it cool back off to ambient temperature and plug it back in and works fine again. I have a laptop cooler underneath the unit for now and turned off beam forming and ipv6 to see if that will fix it otherwise it will have to go back. We had a working mesh unit from Samsung but as we recently upgraded two laptops to WiFi6, we decided to upgrade the mesh as well. Uhm yeah, night and frickin'' day! The stats in the window do not lie. This thing is fast. The coverage is good with one per floor and we have some messed up walls and electrical so the stronger signal compared to the Samsung was very welcome. Setup is so ridiculously easy I felt kind of insulted. A really nice touch is the status light on the bottom. We have a faulty switch that needs to be replaced that this is connected to. When the Internet goes out, a quick look over tells me if it is the switch or something else. The mini towers are much larger than the saucers of the Samsung but not so intrusive as to be a pain to place. I highly recommend this unit.
